Reviews about Unique Experiences with Locals
We really enjoyed our bear watching experience with Simona, who is incredibly knowledgeable about the bears and was able to answer every question we asked. We saw at least 4 different bears. Transportation was straightforward, and they accommodated dropping us off in Zărnești rather than back in Braşov as we were staying there that night.
I found Romanian Friend online when I searched for being able to watch bears in the wild. The trip was very easy to book and fitted in with my travel plans. Our guide Simona was very friendly, informative and showed a real love and passion for bears. We saw 5 bears on our trip and it was incredible. We used Simona's binoculas to be able to view the bears very closely. A fantastic, unforgettable experience. Thank you.
Vlad and his wife were lovely people! It was a pleasant way to spend a morning. Vlad took us on a moderately hard (walking uphill for about an hour) up to the top of Mount Tampa. We then walked down and passed through a farmer's market to pick up some cheese. It would have been nice if we had a little extra time to explore the market, but I think he was trying to be conscious of our time since we had a train to catch. Vlad's wife cooked a very large and delicious 3 course lunch, and they shared some homemade cherry alcohol. They were able to cater to me (a vegetarian) and my daughter who is not a vegetarian. It was a really nice time.
Isti did a nice job leading us through the valleys, and up and down the mountains. The hike was moderate, with slightly challenging uphill areas at times, but he was great about slowing down when we needed it. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and lunch was great. Bring snacks because we hiked for almost 4 hours before getting to our lunch stop!
